Walk 45 [8 miles] - Clun & Whitcott Keysett

Monday 29th December and started from Clun. Geri & Graham Jackson led 5 of us on a 8 mile journey in very cold and overcast conditions. We set out heading north west along the Shropshire Way before turning south west along a track to the hamlet of Whitcott Keysett stopping to admire the Victorian post box after which we paused briefly for coffee.

Then there was the long and steady climb up Weston Hill where Geri was reunited with yet another lost glove!

The long and steady climb..

..and the reward

before starting the long descent into Clun - again only a brief pause for lunch near Burfield - it was far too cold the hang about, and Ian Graves was looking distinctly 'poorly' by this time.

Walk 44 [9 miles] - Llanfair Waterdine & Offa's Dyke

Ian Graves led us on a 9 mile anticlockwise journey from Llanfair Waterdine picking up the Jack Mytton Way before turning north and climbing to Offas Dyke where we stopped for coffee.

Coming off Offa's Dyke after coffee

Then a gentle downhill walk to Stoney Pound before turning for home. The weather was bright and once we had left Offas Dyke was surprisingly warm although the heavy rain of preceding days had the ground wet underfoot.

..and the rest of us looked at this

Meanwhile the rest of us took in the great view We stopped for lunch (after grumblings in the ranks) on a hillside overlooking Cwm Collo before taking a shortcut and crossing Crochen Brook where most of the ladies in the walk literally filled their boots!! Then down to Mellin-y-Grogue and along the road to our starting point.

A delightful walk and many thanks to Ian Graves for researching and leading us.

Walk 43 [5½ miles] - Lingen Loop

Took place on a cold and frosty Monday 1st December when Ian & Margaret Hay-Campbell took us on the Lingen Loop walk. 8 of us left Bucknell at 9.30am and parked at Lingen and away we went. The walk starts by following the Lime Brook and through the woods before descending towards the remains of Limebrook Priory a 13th century nunnery. On the way we were delighted to spy a couple of pigs, as well as a donkey who enjoyed the apples we brought for him.

We continued our walk along the road before starting our climb up to Knoll Plantation stopping on the way for a break.
